Steel slabs are semi-finished steel products typically produced through continuous casting following the steelmaking process. Unlike billets, which are generally used for long steel products, slabs have a wide rectangular cross-section and are primarily processed through hot rolling to manufacture flat steel products. Their chemical composition, dimensions, and mechanical characteristics are selected according to the requirements of the final rolled product.

Steel slabs are principally used as feedstock for the production of hot-rolled coils, steel plates, sheets, strips, and other flat-rolled steel products. These materials are subsequently consumed across construction, shipbuilding, automotive manufacturing, pipelines, heavy machinery, pressure equipment, industrial fabrication, and infrastructure development.

Due to their dimensions and weight, steel slabs are generally handled as heavy bulk cargo and transported using suitable breakbulk or bulk shipping arrangements depending on shipment size, loading port, and destination. Shipments can be supported by relevant documentation, including Mill Test Certificate (MTC), Certificate of Origin, weight documentation, and shipping documents, with independent inspection arranged where required.
